How is NEMT dispatch different from taxi dispatch?

Trips arrive days ahead from brokers and facilities, with a level of service (ambulatory, wheelchair, stretcher) and appointment times to protect. Return trips are often will-calls, recurring trips (dialysis, therapy) are standing orders, and every trip needs documentation the payer will check.[1]

What is a will-call in NEMT?

A return trip with no fixed time: the rider or clinic calls when the appointment ends, and the dispatcher sends the nearest suitable vehicle.

Do NEMT dispatchers need medical training?

Not usually, but they must understand levels of service and follow the privacy, documentation and incident rules in the company's broker contracts.
