How it works

How limo and chauffeur prices are put together

Hourly hire is the norm for limousines and chauffeured cars: you pay for the vehicle and driver by the hour, whether it is moving or waiting outside a venue. Most quotes set a minimum number of hours, so a short trip is billed at the minimum. On top of the hourly charge come a gratuity (often a percentage of the base, sometimes already included), any fuel or service surcharge, and costs passed through such as tolls, parking and airport fees, then tax.

Operators work the other way round. A vehicle’s fixed costs each month (finance, insurance, servicing, licensing and its share of the office) are divided by the hours it can actually bill, then the chauffeur’s pay and the fuel and wear per hour are added, then the margin. The fewer hours a car bills, the higher its rate has to be.

FAQ

Limo pricing questions

How is a limo hire price calculated?

Hourly rate × hours booked (or the minimum hours, if more), plus gratuity, any surcharge, tolls, parking and airport fees, then tax. Check whether the hours run from pick-up or from the garage and whether gratuity is already in the rate.

How much is a limo for 7 hours?

Seven times the hourly rate on your quote, plus gratuity and extras. At a $110 hourly rate, seven hours is $770 before gratuity; a 20% gratuity on the base adds $154. Enter your own rate above to see the total.

Why do limo companies have a minimum number of hours?

Because a booking ties up the vehicle and chauffeur for more than the ride itself: getting there, waiting and getting back. A minimum makes short bookings cover the time around them.

How do I set an hourly rate for my chauffeur business?

Divide each vehicle's monthly fixed costs by the hours it can bill, add the chauffeur's pay and the fuel and wear per hour, then add your margin. Use operator mode in the calculator above.
