What are the start-up costs of a taxi business?

How can you start a taxi business with less money?
Defer what you can. In England and Wales you can drive a private hire vehicle for a business that already holds an operator licence instead of getting your own, so the operator costs wait until you have customers. Renting a licensed car instead of buying one moves the vehicle cost into a weekly payment, and per-driver software costs nothing for drivers who are not working.[6]
Where can a new taxi business get finance?
In the US, the Small Business Administration's microloan programme lends up to $50,000 through non-profit intermediary lenders, and the average microloan is about $13,000. Elsewhere, compare bank loans with vehicle finance, which is secured on the car.[7]
Options for the cars themselves are in taxi finance and leasing.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a typical total cost to start a taxi business?
No official one. The licence fees alone differ by council and city, and vehicles can be bought, financed or rented. Build your own total from the cost sheet above; the UK version is in what it costs to start a taxi business in the UK.
Do I need my own app to start?
No. Many firms start with phone and web bookings. If you want an app under your own name, a white-label app avoids building one; see taxi app development cost.
