Key facts
What is a booked hire service licence?
A licence for a vehicle (not a taxi or limousine) to provide booked hire services. It is issued for 12 months, cannot be renewed or transferred, so you apply for a new one before it expires, and holders and drivers must be affiliated with an authorised booking entity. Applications take 5 to 20 business days.[1]
What does a booking entity authorisation cost?
It depends on fleet size, from 1 July 2026: $310.35 for 1 to 5 vehicles, $868.95 for 6 to 20, $2,482.75 for 21 to 50 and $6,206.85 for more than 50, plus a $52.70 criminal history check for each person on the application unless they already hold a driver authorisation.[2]
How do I apply for a booked hire service licence?
Online if you are an individual or a company with an ACN, a TMR customer reference number and a current certificate of inspection for the vehicle; otherwise in person at a customer service centre. The vehicle needs Queensland registration with the right purpose of use and the correct CTP insurance class.[1]
What about taxis and limousines?
They hold taxi or limousine service licences instead, renewed for one to five years; a one-year renewal is $220.25 and a five-year renewal $1,101.25 from 1 July 2026.[2]
Frequently asked questions

Yes; TMR's fees rose 3.4% on 1 July 2026 under the government's indexation policy.
